Description

RAS
A key point in a successful RAS installation is particle control. Hydrotech filters ensure a gentle and immediate removal of up to 90% of particles. A number of issues must be considered when designing RAS, otherwise particles may be dissolved or destroyed before they reach the screen.

► Choice of filter opening in micro screen
► Shape of the tanks outlets
► Stocking densities of fish
► Pipes and distance to micro screens
► Aeration in tanks for oxygen supply
► Type of feed

Besides removing major loads off the biofilter, the screen also makes an absolute filtration removing parasites in the recirculation loop. In some installations such as eel farms, this feature has become a crucial success factor.

Hydrotech has a team of biologist and engineers available for support for optimal use of our filters in RAS projects.

Intake Water
Tests on a shrimp farm in Malaysia with Hydrotech filter filtering inlet water in combination with UV showed significant improvements in both growth and feed conversion:

► Feeding increased by 253 %
► Feed conversion were improved by 20 %
► Final havesting was improved by 300 %

This was a 46 days test on shrimp ponds where 2 identical pond each was stocked with 75.000 post larvae. The harvest result was:

► Pond 1 with traditional intake water: 71 kg
► Pond 2 with Hydrotech and UV installed: 214 kg

Effluent Water
Over 90% of solids can be filtered away with Hydrotech Microscreens and this means over 80% phosphor + about 80% BOD reduction.

This filter technology is dependent on size and strength of particles; only particles bigger than the mesh holes, and particles which do not disintegrate, can be filtered out of the water.

To achieve optimal efficiency of a downstream filter the following should be taken under consideration:

► Choice of filter opening in micro screen
► Design of ponds/tanks or race ways
► Mechanical destruction of particles
► Feed quality
